AEON Credit demonstrated bold climate change commitment by kicking off scope 1 & 2 carbon emission tracking and reporting. The Group is working on carbon emission reduction initiatives and formulation of carbon reduction targets, a Task Force on Climate – Related Financial Disclosure ("TCFD"), to identify the business climate related risk and opportunity based on the analysis and eventually incorporates the reports into the existing reports.
Throughout the year of 2021, AEON Credit recorded 108 tonne CO2 and 2,255 tonne CO2 for Scope 1 & 2 carbon emission.

AEON Credit emphasizes the importance of environment conservation in its business footprint, and has obtained ISO 14001 certification which adopts the Environmental Management System (“EMS”) standards that cover the Group’s processes, practices and waste managements. We conduct a yearly audit to ensure that we comply with the environmental standards, policies and targets.
Enhance Employee Awareness
The Group actively conducts environmental conservation awareness programs for the purpose of enhancing the environmental awareness among the employees.
Online Application
AEON Credit adopted 100% online application for all financial products in order to allow customers to apply anytime at anywhere.
In branches, the walk-in customers are encouraged to submit their details via digital form on a tablet for credit assessment. Submission via a tablet able to reduce the errors associated with illegible handwriting in capturing customer information. It is also easier for the staff and customer to verify the information is before submitting the digital form.
Besides that, the online application form, also help to reduce the paper consumption significantly.
E-Statement
e-Statement is part of Group’s initiatives to reduce paper consumption and CO2 emissions. Customers may view their online credit card statements via AEON Wallet or AEON website instead of hardcopies. e-Statement not only convenient and secure but also help to mitigate the impacts of climate change by reducing the paper waste

The Group has reduced the paper consumption by processing documents via electronic document management system for credit processing and customer services. The system can handle multiple concurrent transactions or processes in real time, which able to avoid any delay in processes.
E-waste management
E-waste increased in tandem with the Group’s operation becomes more technological driven and highly dependent on IT equipment and gadgets. The Group has established a standard operating procedures to collect, recycling and dispose the e-waste properly to reduce environmental impacts. The Group’s scheduled waste disposal comprising of e-waste and paper are complies with the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Waste) Regulations 2005. Disposal of electronic waste such as PCs, monitors, fluorescent tubes and etc is made through appointed vendor who is registered with the Department of Environment to carry out eco-friendly disposal of such items.

The Group actively promotes digital meeting solutions to improve productivity for all corporate level meetings.

The Group also advocates energy efficiency initiatives such as installation of LED lights for new and refurbished branches as well as utilise energy efficient display for all branches.

a) Reforestation Programmes
In line with AEON Credit effort in reducing carbon footprint and increase the greenery for the benefit of future generation, the Group has initiated and supported reforestation activities since 2009. The Group kicked off its first activity - AEON Woodland Programme in 2009 at Paya Indah Wetland during AEON 25th Anniversary. 25,000 trees were planted by the volunteers of AEON Japan together with local community.
Since 2009, the Group continuously partner with AEON Malls, Government Agencies and Environmental NGOs to plant trees at several locations such as AEON Malls, reserved forests and communities that we operate aiming to mitigate the effects of climate change.
In November 2019, the Group embarked its first major reforestation project with Sarawak Forestry Department to rehabilitate 15 hectare of reserved forest which was destroyed by fire resulted in serious haze in March. The Group is targeted to commence with Phase 2 plantings in year 2022.
Other than forest tree species, the Group had also planted mangrove saplings in Sabah since 2018. The Group continues to increase the number of saplings planted in Lema’as Forest Reserve Kota Belud, Sabah as part of our efforts to protect the coastal area from erosion.

MANGROVE TREE-PLANTING IN KOTA BELUD, SABAH
A mangrove tree planting activity was held in Sabah, jointly organised by AEON Credit and the KK Wetlands Society. This was part of continuous engagement with KK Wetlands Society since 2018.
The activity saw 500 mangrove saplings being planted at the Lema’as Forest Reserve, a Class V Mangrove Forest Reserve in Kota Belud aiming to conserve the Sabah’s biodiversity whilst improving the quality of the natural environment and rivers.

NATIONWIDE COASTAL CLEAN UP PROGRAMME
In line with the UNSDGs 13 (Climate Change) and 14 (Life Below Water), the Group organised its annual coastal clean up programme at six coastal areas nationwide to perform its commitment to educate everyone to work collectively to mitigate climate change as well as to eliminate pollution and protect all marine life.
